When Dire Kobolds Attack!


"When Dire Kobolds Attack!" is a free sample Xenogenic SystemTM Adventure. It's specifically designed to showcase certain elements of the System and includes designer notes at various points to explain different generation options.

General Options

This section allows you to enter the details of the party and some printing options. The adventure will then be scaled to fit.

    From 1 to 7 lvl 4 is the default

Magic Options

This section allows you to specify the maximum value of any magic item given out during the adventure and whether magic items are ever for sale at any point in the adventure.

General Monster Options

This allows you to decided how powerful you want to make your monsters based on their ability scores and percentage of maximum hit points. Medium ability scores represent approximately a +0 total ability modifier. High is approximately +5 and low is around -3. All the modifiers are before racial bonuses are taken into account. Additionally you can specify the percentage of the recommended treasure for a given monster/encounter.

Named Monster Options

Named monsters are the major characters in the adventure and as such you're given the option to make them a little bit tougher than average. In WDKA the humanoid (orc or ogre depending on the parties level) widow, the hobgoblin chief, Gimp, the original Dire Kobold, the Kobold Chief, and Urki are all named monsters. For named monsters medium ability scores represent approximately a +2 total ability modifier. High is approximately +7 and low is around -1.

NPC Options

Generally speaking, except in rare circumstances like a recurring villian, NPCs are those characters in the adventure the players are not intended to fight. All of the people described in the village of Wellsfork are NPCs. In their case medium ability scores represent approximately a +5 total ability modifier. High is approximately +10 and low is around +2.

Trap Options

Finally there are a couple of options available to handle the way traps are presented in the adventure. You can add a constant to all of the save, search and disable save DCs and decide whether the challange rating of the traps should be added when determining the total amount of treasure given out in the adventure.

  Best results between -5 to +5

Modifier for Disable DC:

  Best results between -5 to +5
